In Poda Lagoon protected area there is a unique breeding colony of cormorants, over 100 Common terns and a few Little terns, Black-winged stilt, Avocet and Marsh harrier. A total of 46 different species have been recorded breeding at Poda.

Because of the big nutrition basis Poda and the surrounding lakes provide best conditions for wintering species. Nearly all European ducks and grebes can be watched in the winter months.

In Poda and its surroundings you can find very rare species like Red breasted Goose, Pygmy Cormorant, White headed Duck, Dalmatian Pelican, Corncrake and Feruginous Duck.
